My progress or streak is gone

There are no accounts yet, so your progress lives in the browser you play in. It resets when:

  • you play in a private or incognito window;
  • you clear this site’s data, or your browser clears it for you;
  • you switch to another browser or device, which starts with its own record.

We can’t restore it, because we never receive a copy (see Privacy). Optional accounts, to keep progress across devices, are on the way.

I can’t hear the words

The speaker on an answer card uses the voice built into your device. If you hear nothing:

  • turn the volume up, and on iPhone check the silent switch;
  • try another browser: a few don’t include a voice at all;
  • if there’s no speaker on the card, your browser has no voice to offer. Recorded audio for every word is coming.

You can switch between a US and a UK accent in the edition menu on the home page.

When do new words arrive?

Every day at 00:00 UTC, the same moment for everyone, wherever you live. The countdown at the bottom of every page shows how long is left. If it has passed and you still see yesterday’s words, reload the page. Missed a day? Every issue stays in Back issues.

Translations

Every word, meaning and example comes in Spanish and French. Pick one, or turn translations off, in the edition menu on the home page. Your choice is saved in this browser. More languages are planned. Choosing your language there also switches the site to it, unless you keep the site in English.

I found a mistake

A wrong translation, a typo or a clue that doesn’t fit: please tell us. Include the issue number (No. 013) and the card number printed on the word card (#037), and we’ll fix it for everyone.
